(Here's my idea for this: Cross is walking through the Unknown, runs into some extremely dangerous beast, ends up killing the thing but gets seriously injured in the process. I want someone who will both NPC the creature, and play their own character to find him.)

Cross walked through the entrance to the Unknown. This was his favorite place to train, though some may have thought him suicidal. Maps were useless in the Unknown, which meant that he could've gotten lost for a long time if he wasn't careful. In fact, it had just so happened that in the past he'd gotten stuck in the Unknown. That was the hardest week, twelve hours, and twenty-three minutes of his life. But because he'd survived it, it had only made him that much stronger. He'd nearly died several times in that week. Each time he faced off with an opponent in this realm, he always escaped just clinging to life. But each time he had found himself against a stronger opponent than the last, as if this place was testing him.

But despite the hardships he'd faced here, he loved this place. It was mysterious, and dangerous. It was always quiet, and never held much activity. Humans rarely came to this realm. Yes, Cross thought of this place as a realm, not a land. After all, what kind of land changed its paths constantly, as the Unknown did? This place was like a whole different dimension, and the gates were the portal that brought one to their doom, if they dared enter. And Cross...well, he more than dared. He welcomed Doom like an old friend, eager to outdo it once more. There was one thing in particular that Cross searched for when he came here, more than simply a challenge. He wanted to find Silence. No, he had no wish he wanted to be granted, but he'd heard of this great being who could grant any wish. A being like that had to be powerful, right? All Cross wanted was a chance to fight this being, to test just how powerful he himself had become. Of course he wouldn't kill the creature, that would be an act of cruelty to others. And though he was cold, Cross was not cruel. Unless his job stated for him to do so, he would not intentionally be cruel to others, torture them, or prolong their death if they were in great pain.

So far it seemed that nothing was approaching the black winged messenger. Cross only went to the Unknown when he had enough money to live off of for a while, so that when he went here, he wouldn't have to take jobs for a while, because he always got hurt. His black wings folded behind his back, Cross stopped walking and looked around as he heard something approaching. He looked back to see that he was still on a good path, since he could still see the gates. By good path, it's meant that Cross had discovered that there's a certain path in the Unknown that doesn't change, but every now and then he'll stray from it, just to see if other parts of the Unknown are like that. But generally, he stuck close to the entrance, so that he wouldn't get lost again.

(Nice post, sorry I couldn't match it)

A massive green creature slunk through the bushes near Cross. It's body not at all bulky, but the slime that ran off it's side gave an over bearing smell that rotted everything around it. Six large legs that oozed with green vile and claws the size of butcher knives. A head with small beady red eyes and a mouth with what looked like several rows of teeth. Step by step it moved onward. There was no set destination for this creature. It was almost a mindless beast. That wasn't very hard to tell though, as it seemed to walk straight into trees, separating it's gooey body into two and rejoining after passing the branches while it's tongue lolled out of it's mouth. A disgusting being it was, and it was heading directly for Cross.

(Haha, that's no problem. I didn't expect the post to be matched. Nice monster btw. Very creative.)

Cross heard the rotting and decaying of plants and live around it before he smelled the creature, and he smelled the creature before he saw it. Granted, he'd seen some pretty nasty stuff in the Unknown, but this was by far the worst. Judging by the fact that everything was rotting as this creature moved forward, Cross figured that this would have to be a long ranged battle. He stepped back as he saw the creature, his face blank as always, but in his mind, he was thinking about just letting this creature pass in by so he could search for a smarter creature. This thing looked as smart as a dead fish. But he knew that every time he came to the Unknown he was faced with a more intense challenge. That being said, he didn't question his Thinking Training Grounds.

Cross took out several knives, planning on seeing if this slimy creature could be hurt by weapons. Once Cross was sure that he had a clear shot, he whipped the knives (think Prince Belphegor knives) at the disgusting creature, then visually measured the distance between him and the creature. He didn't even know how fast the thing could move, which was bad. Cross's best ally in his battles was his speed. And some of the creatures he'd faced in this land had made him look like a snail. He knew he couldn't get close to the creature, else his very flesh be rotted by the odor it gave off. Not a pleasant thought. Granted, Cross's second best ally was his strength, then his jutsu, in that order. But if just being around the creature could rot things, how much damage would actually touching it do? Cross wasn't sure he wanted to find out.

(Thanks, but I can't take the credit. My cousin thought it up for me.)

The beast turned it's slimy head as something entered it's slime. A shudder passed over the creature. "Rawwrrr!!!!" It groaned loudly and shifted to the left and then to the right, knocking green slime away from it's body towards Cross. It's red eyes flickered as it turned it's entire body and starred at the small thing before it. "Rgahaha." It started to slink towards Cross. It's movement slow, but all the same its odor made up for it. It's red tongue lifted and swiped over it's face. "Rgahaha." Foam began to pour from it's mouth. A blue acid that hit the ground and burned straight through. "Rgahaha."

Cross immediately pulled himself behind a tree as the creature shook the slime in his direction. It seemed like the knives had hurt it, but the messenger couldn't be sure. He peaked his head from behind the tree to see the creature coming towards him. Ignoring the smell as best he could, Cross started away from the creature, throwing more knives at it. He was glad to find out that the thing was slow. That kind of destructive power matched with a fast speed would be beyond just deadly. It would probably be on the edge of unstoppable. Which is why he was glad the thing was slow. Cross usually didn't use jutsu unless he needed to and for the time being, he didn't need to. He'd find out this thing's weak spot, while keeping his distance. That acid didn't exactly look pleasant. Cross hoped to whatever deity ruled this land that it couldn't spew the stuff from it's mouth.

Taking out a single knife, Cross aimed the weapon at the creature's eye at an incredible speed. Usually the eyes were the weak point on just about anything. And hell, if the beast couldn't see Cross, then it couldn't head in his direction. And if it wasn't close to him, it couldn't rot his flesh. Yeah, he'd rather be unscarred by the end of this one. Burn marks were supposed to hurt like hell, and the same with acid. They didn't exactly look pretty either. But hell, people were already afraid of Cross, what would a little burn mark do? Anyways, most of the scars (which were quite a lot) that Cross had were well hidden under his clothing. Not that he intentionally tried to hide them, he couldn't care less. But most of them were either on his shoulders, back, or stomach. He only had a few on his legs, but those were minor, and since he usually wore pants, a shirt and a jacket anyways, all his scars were covered.

It would hunt him down until he was dead. It's blue acid still boiling
from it's mouth it lifted it's head high and shot the blue liquid into
the air. Accurately aiming it at Cross's tree. Though dumb as a brick,
the thing had it's defense. Another shudder and it slung slim at the
tree, then bomb rushing the spot where Cross was. It was slow, but with
each shudder it could pick up some energy in a burst."Rgahaha." It's
tongue lifted and swiped it's face, picking up acid along with it and
suddenly shooting out at Cross's arm. The kunai that hit it's eye only
made it madder. "RAWRARAR!!!" It bashed it's head against the side of a
tree which divided it into two before reconnecting. "RARWRWARA!!!!" The
creature looked at Cross and whipped the arms at the tree.

Great, the thing could spew the acid. How did Cross know? Because the shit had hit him after burning through the tree leaves and branches above him. In addition to that, some of the larger branches fell, causing Cross to roll to the side just as the slime creature bomb rushed the tree. Luckily, or not so luckily for Cross, the acid had just landed on his shoulder, but it had been enough to both burn through his jacket and start burning into his skin, leaving a rather large burn mark on his shoulder through his jacket. And aside from that, the burnt jacket was starting to stick to his skin. Deciding he could get a new one, Cross threw the jacket in front of the thing in order to blind it, taking out a kunai with a paper bomb on it and throwing it at the creature, turning and getting himself away from the green menace, as he was finding it increasingly harder to breath around the thing.

Cross was surprised that he himself hadn't started rotting, but when he turned to look at the thing, he saw that his jacket had melted before it even hit the creature, but at least it had given him a moment to get away. He anything, he'd have to start using smokebombs. Once he found himself far enough away, he stopped a moment to catch his breath. He felt like he'd just breathed in mustard gas, or something of the like. He was surprised his body hadn't started shutting down on him yet. Oh yeah, this was gonna be harder than he'd anticipated. Well, he had his work cut out for him on this one. He deemed trips like these to be his own, personal missions. He'd beat whatever came at him, or he'd die trying. For if Cross had nothing, no morals, nor friends nor family, there was one thing he did possess: Pride. And he'd fight to the very end. But first he had to figure out how to beat this thing. He wondered if that slime was flammable.

"Rgahaha!!!!" The creature tried catching Cross with his arms, but the man had rolled across the ground like some kind of worm. Reaching out it's legs it tried again but something black monetarily blocked it's vision. Frustration welded up inside of the beast and it bashed it's head into the tree. "Rgahaha!!!!" It rose up on it's hind legs and dropped itself to the ground, spewing disgusting slime in ever which direction before slinking towards Cross, tongue outstretched and drenched in acid. The creature paused as he was hit with another pointy object, but it did not pierce his skin, for the slime was a protective cover. When something exploded the thing roared in pain. "RAWRARAR!!! EREWK! EREWK!" It smashed it's head into the tree, knocking it down and giving off an even more powerful odor in it's distress.

Cross couldn't avoid all the acid, there would be no chance of it. So instead he used an earth dome jutsu, covering himself while he kept low to the ground. The lower to the ground he was, the less surface area the dome had to have, and if there was less surface area, he could make the dome thicker. Which is just what he did. And even then small specks of light started showing through as the dome was almost completely disintegrated in the front. The odor that was let through when the dome finally came down after the thing stopped spewing acid made Cross gasp, and for a few seconds he felt like he was being suffocated by some unseen force. He had to get away from this thing, at least far enough so he could breath.

Cross turned and went to start away when something hit him. He hadn't even begun using jutsu yet. It took him a good ten seconds to get away, going as fast as he could without breathing. When he finally got to a breathable area, his hand was on his chest and he was coughing. He was almost certain now that the odor that creature was giving off had some kind of mustard gas-like effect. His lungs were burning with effort to just breath. Casting jutsu like this wasn't something that would be easy. He'd only just heard the tree that had snapped and was creaking down in his direction before picking up speed and falling. The bad thing was that he'd been starting a jutsu, and had been right in the tree's path, so as he tried to move, a rather large branch caught his left arm, and he was sure that it had broke it, at the very least. And go figure, his left arm was now broken, his right shoulder burned by acid. As he held onto his arm in pain, he watched for the creature, trying to think of a battle plan.

The large rock made the creature curious. It resembled it's spot near home. Was it home? The beat moved forward, inching it's way closer. Was this being trying to overtake it's home? Too engrossed in the dome it put Cross aside for another time. "Rhrome." It's many eyes blinked all at once as mucus exited the red pupils as though it was crying. "Rhrome." It was almost as if the thing was trying to speak. Looking into the hole created by the acid it became angered once more at the sight of Cross. "Rgahaha!" That tiny creature was trying to infiltrate it's home. It's six arms rose and fell, smashing trees in rage. Cross was too fast and it could not catch up. The beast shuddered massively, gathering energy for another strike.

Kaoru had yet another day off. She was beginning to question if this was normal. She didn't believe she deserved these days off. She had done nothing that stood out. Most would not complain, but the blue haired ANBU only took credit when it was due. And there was no credit to claim. Vacation was unacceptable. None the less she was traveling to the Unknown with Kami flying overhead. Somewhere in all those trees laid something for her. She'd never actually explored in there though, too many rumors. Rumors of people going in and never returning, unrealistic creatures, death that awaited you at every turn. Horror stories that were meant to keep people out, and so far they'd done a great job on keeping her out. She was no fan of horror. Today was one of those days that fear was not a factor and there she was, standing at the entrance of the forsaken place. "The stories make it sound scarier than it actually is, looks like a normal forest to me."

Cross almost couldn't take this. He couldn't move his left arm and he was in massive amounts of pain just trying to breathe. Granted, being in pain was not something that was new to him, but he wasn't sure if he'd done a significant amount of damage to this creature. In fact, all he seemed to be doing was pissing it off more! Though, being Cross had it's advantages. He was able to keep a level head, even in a situation like this. This was no time to be panicking, and this was no time to be losing his cool. It was time for planning. And while he was doing that, to stay as far away from this beast as possible without losing sight of it. He wouldn't run away altogether, no. That was not his style. He was no coward. He would find a way to beat this thing no matter what.

Okay, so using jutsu was out, which meant no fire. Unless...Oil. He had that. One of his main jutsu was a dark fire technique, and he carried about small containers that looked like smoke bombs, but they were filled with oil, to amplify the effect of the technique. Sure, he couldn't use jutsu. But he had oil, and he had paper bombs. And that was enough to create an artificial fire. While the thing was on a rampage, Cross would lure it into a trap. He turned and threw a shuriken at the creature with his right arm to tick it off more. But with all the falling trees, he was thinking maybe that wasn't a good idea. He'd just have to be more alert. Then, running forward, Cross threw one of the oil bombs on the ground behind him and the oil (which was quite a bit of such a small container) oozed out slowly across the ground. As soon as the creature got close enough, Cross would ignite it, causing an explosion where the creature stood.

(I'll have him get hit by the acid once more before he sets off the trap, if that's alright.)

(That's fine.)

The creature roared as the shuriken hit it. Now it was mad. It's shuddering coming to a stop it shook it's head. The tongue lolling and covered with blue acid as it started forward slower than it had been. The beast smashed it's head into nearby trees and suddenly charged forward at Cross and towards the oil. Soaking in the substance it started to inch back for the oil was getting under it's protective slime. To get rid of it the creature channel it to it's head and combined it with the acid in it's mouth. Raising on all six legs it shook it's head and spewed acid towards Cross before landing back down, feeling at ease as the oil was out of it's system. "Rgahaha!!!" It started to turn, ready for another strike. It's arms lashing out at the tiny man as it spit more acid.

No matter what he did, nothing seemed to slow the creature down. Well, it was slow enough, but nothing was hurting it seriously enough to make Cross think he was getting somewhere. His attention was caught as the creature inched back because the oil had gotten under the slime. So...maybe he couldn't destroy it from the outside...but how about the inside? An idea hatched in his mind just then. But he couldn't put it into action just yet because the creature was spewing acid again, the oil having disintegrated as soon as it'd touched the acid. Cross was unable to avoid all the acid, because he was unable to use jutsu, and most of what he was unable to dodge landed up on his stomach. In addition to that, the pain of the first attack delayed his reaction to the second, causing his left arm to get burned in addition to being broken.

Cross swallowed and hid himself behind a tree for the time being, finding himself having difficulties breathing. The creature was getting closer and closer to him, and that putrid mustard gas-like odor was making it's way into Cross's lungs once more. It was either time for him to act, or time for him to die. He'd take his chances with acting. Pulling out another oil bomb, he moved from his spot behind the tree and threw it at the creatures feet, taking up another kunai with a paper bomb as he did, all with his right hand. He waited a few moments while the oil was absorbed into it before throwing the kunai at it and turning tail to run. That would likely cause a massive explosion and he did not want to be around when the acid inside that thing melted whatever was in it's path.

(Sorry for the delay, went on vaca for a few days.)

The creature pushed forward. Green slime falling off it's body while the blue acid in it's mouth burned a whole in the ground. Ready to make a second charge it began to shudder. Moving slowly forward it rawred with the oil hitting under it's body. Sucking it up like a giant sponge it prepared it to expel the substance. Not yet able to do so as something hit it's body once more it paused. "Rgahaha!!!" BOOM!!! The beast exploded. Everything blowing away with it and the acid melting all it touched, while a horrid odor filled the air.

BOOM! Kaoru was already in the Unknown. What had the explosion been? What if someone was hurt? No time to think. Kaoru strayed off the path and towards the explosion. The closer she got the stronger some horrible scent became. She swallowed and coughed. "What is this?" Her eyes burned and she rubbed them as they began to water. Everything about her was melting. She had to stop, any closer and she'd choke to death. Maybe no one was out here, maybe whatever it was was just another occurence in the Unknown. Regardless, she had to get out, fast.

(That's no problem.)

Cross had heard the explosion and knew his plan had worked when he heard things start to vaporize around him from both the acid and the stench. His wings had been folded on his back as he ran, but he knew he hadn't been far enough away from the explosion when he felt a sharp burning at the base of his wings, and in the middle of one of them, feathers started falling out after been hit with acid as well. He cringed rather badly as the acid burned the base of his wing. That was by far the most sensitive area on his wing. And he hadn't even had his jacket on to block the acid, just a sleeveless shirt, because he'd lost his jacket in the fight.

The smell that the creature's death emitted was faster than he was, and his breaths became quicker and more shallow as he ran. He had to get away. Not too far from him was that blue haired girl, whom he hadn't seen through the trees. But he was faster than her, and in no time he was back at the entrance to the Unknown. Instead of leaving out, he sat heavily to the ground in front of, but not leaning against, a tree, trying to regain his ability to breath. As he did so, one of his black wings unintentionally curled around him slightly, but not enough to completely obscure him from passersby. He was dead tired, and in more pain than he'd ever come out of this place with. His lungs burned with each breath, and his one wing almost felt as though it was about to fall completely off. It wasn't, of course, but the pain could've fooled him.

Kaoru made her way back to the path that she'd strayed from coughing. That putrid odor was burning her lungs. The entrance was insight, so she would soon be free of the odor, but then she saw him. A man a bit older than her with black wings leaning against a tree badly injured. She hurried over to him and came to a halt. "Are you okay?" She asked. Dumb question, of course he wasn't. She looked down at him, examining his wounds. It would take too long to carry him back, immediate treatment needed to start now. She reached out a hand to see if he was okay. "Sir? Can you hear me?"

Cross raised his head, his eyes narrowed slightly and his breaths labored, when he heard someone approach and ask if he was okay. His eyes weren't narrowed in suspicion, but in pain. And even though he wasn't trying to, his demeanor still seemed to come off as somewhat intimidating. Then again, he never tried to. But the fact that he was injured probably lowered his intimidation level by a little bit. His wing didn't move from its' slightly curled position as she approached. "Y-yeah," he said, giving a light cough after his response. That reply hadn't been to her first question, but her last. He'd completely bypassed the first. It was a stupid question, and Cross didn't believe in giving stupid answers to stupid questions. He just didn't answer them at all. When she reached a hand forward, his eyes landed on it almost warily. He didn't know this woman, therefore he didn't trust her. Then again, Cross trusted no one.

Kaoru dropped her hand as he looked at it warily. "Sorry," she apologized. She wasn't very skilled in medical jutsu. In fact, she left that to her teams medical ninja. Some basics were required as an ANBU, but not anything too fancy. "Listen, you're in really bad shape, you probably already know that, but what I'm saying is that you need help. It's too far back to town to carry you, and moving you would be bad right now. What I'm asking is for you to allow me to heal you."

As she dropped her hand, Cross's eyes returned to the girl's face, his lungs still burning with the effort of breathing. He found as the air filtered through his lungs it was becoming a bit easier, but he knew for that in particular he was probably gonna need some kind of medicine. He shifted a bit uncomfortably at the pain that emanated from the base of his wing, and as he did, his wing shook itself out a little, a few loose feathers falling from where the acid had hit. He listened to what the blue haired girl said with little interest. He'd be fine. He'd had worse. Scratch that, no he hadn't. Cross was strong, and not in his missions nor in the Unknown had he ever been injured so badly. At least not in so many places. But he didn't know this woman. How could he trust her? "No," he said simply, his eyes on her, and his breathing still heavy. He shifted again, flinching lightly as his shoulder started up with burning due to remnants of the acid left on it.

Kaoru sighed at his stubbornness. No. Just a plain old no. How could anyone be so direct. She wanted to smile about it and maybe laugh but he didn't look like the laughing type. Kaoru tried a different approach. "My name is Kaoru Saikaya. I'm a ninja of the Crested Village." Introductions always worked, hopefully he wasn't one of those indifferent ones. "What is your name?" She asked. She'd slipped a towel and held it up. "There's some kind of blue stuff on your wings," she said. She didn't know it was acid, but it whatever it was it was making all the feathers fall off. "May I clean it off."

Cross didn't quite care that he may've irritated her with his answer. He didn't care to be nice to strangers. And he didn't care to make the people he met anymore than just strangers. He blinked as she introduced herself, then asked for his name. "Cross." Of course it wasn't his real name, but it was the name he went by, the one everyone knew him as. Just as some people had nicknames, Cross was this man's nickname. He never gave out his real name. It had no relevance to him anymore. He blinked as he noticed that seemingly out of nowhere there was a towel in her hand. Maybe he was more out of it than he thought. Had that odor done something to his brain as well? He glanced at his wing as she mentioned there was blue stuff in it, then asked to clean it off. "It's not something you want to touch." He told her, in reference to that so-called 'blue stuff'. He then sighed. "Don't pull any of the feathers," he said blankly, looking off to the side, giving an indirect go-ahead.

Cross. She'd never heard of him before, but she liked the name. Made him seem like some kind of loner or something. So simple yet so complex. She ignored his warning. Had she left it on there the outcome would do no justice for him. "I wont." She said. She slipped off a pouch that she kept water in and put some on the towel and lightly dabbed the blue stuff. As the towel started burning she flipped it so she wouldn't coat him with what she'd wiped off. When she was done she stepped back. "All done." She said with a small smile. "What happened in there?" She asked. She was going to try and talk to him, helping him out bit by bit for as long as he would allow.

Cross watched her out of the corner of his eye as she went to cleaning his wing. At the first touch of the towel, Cross's wing shifted uncomfortably and a small noise of him taking in air through his teeth could be heard, although nothing much showed on his face. Cross wouldn't pretend to be invincible. What was the point in it if he knew he wasn't? He swallowed lightly, biting back the pain as she cleaned off his wing. Any touch to it seemed to make it burn that much more. He let out a small sigh when she finished, his eyes still on her. He almost tilted his head when she smiled. Sometimes people were so difficult to understand. At least for him. Why people smiled for no reason was beyond him. He looked her over once when she asked what happened. He knew perfectly well what she was trying to do. She seemed sincere enough in her efforts, so he'd let her be. "Got into it with some random creature that wandered my way," he said, not bothering to make up a lie. Why should he lie? Again, he found no point in it, so he simply didn't do it.

Kaoru was getting the feel that he was one of those indifferent people. She could be stubborn, but not like him. He was quite interesting. She'd never met someone with wings before. Someone that wasn't a vampire that is. Those didn't look like vampire wings anyway. She looked down at the feathers on the ground. It'd be nice to collect a few. She felt a little kid again. "So that explosion was your doing huh." She wished he'd just give in and ask her to help him. She'd heard him suck in air. "Is your other wing okay?" She asked.

No matter what she said or did, Cross never took his eyes off her for more than a couple seconds. He was very wary of her, but for no reason in particular. He supposed it was just instinct. He was injured, and probably couldn't fight very well even if he had to. And he didn't know if this girl was a threat or not. Well, she didn't seem like a threat anyways, but that meant nothing to Cross. Everyone and everything was a threat in his world. He nodded when she asked that the explosion was his doing. He almost smirked. His toughest challenge in the Unknown so far, and he'd beat it with a bang. Literally.

He paused when she asked if his other wing was alright. Truthfully, it was his other wing on which the base of it had acid. Here was his choice now, give up a little bit of his pride to have her clean it off, or continue on feeling as if his wing was about to fall off. He wasn't stupid, and he wasn't that prideful. "The base of it is burnt from the acid," he stated, allowing her the knowledge that acid was in fact what she'd been dealing with. He finally allowed his curiosity to get the better of him. "Why are you in the Unknown?" he asked, his eyes locked on hers. Cross was a being not like many other humans. For all she knew, he could've been a creature of the Unknown, he could've been dangerous, even in his injured state. Why was she trying to help him? Had she not thought of these things?
