| There were countless people Ivan had seen fall in the glory of war. So many that he could not name without skipping someone. But he knew quite a few. Yes he did. And every accountable person had been recorded in a book of records he'd made. Ivan could not help himself. War was , interesting. He'd gladly start one if asked.
But he knew better than to that right now. He didn't want to get into trouble for being foolish. Not he. Not the very man who everyone already believed to be a shady fellow. Ivan could not risk exposure. Not just yet. Not when there was still time to undo the wrong and make things right. Yes, he could change everything.
He flipped a page as he starred at a large tombstone filled with names. It was everyone who had died in the previous battle. All those Fallen Soldiers. He smiled. "6,047 casualties, 5,871 wounded, 3874 dead, 1735 missing. " Ivan knew his stats by heart. He'd after all, recorded them and memorized them each and every day.

| (aren't the dead and wounded included in the category of 'casualties'? Jus sayin.)
Okay, so normally she didn't look for fights. But today she was especially bored. Nothing to do, though the weather was nice. No one to speak with though she had the other Infamous Five members. Nowhere to go, even though she was supposed to be guarding the Storm. Which seemed to be recuperating better than she'd expected to. This new kage was no fool, that was for sure. As she walked, she came across a rather odd sight. A lone boy, sitting in front of a large tombstone, one she knew to contain the names of the fallen from the past war. She came up next to him with her arms crossed. "Quite a few, weren't there? One must wonder to where those missing have gone," she said, keeping appearances up, as always. |

| (I have no idea.)
Ivan went tense. He'd not been paying attention to his surroundings. If this woman wanted to, she probably could have killed him. He let out a small breath and turned to her. "Missing ninja are most likely dead ninja." He told her with a slight smile. "Not much to say about that, ma'am." Ivan knew who this woman was. She was the Infamous Five Leader. He didn't have much interest in buzzards like them. "Is there something I can help you with?" |

| Ziade noticed the boy go tense as he heard her voice and she had to hold back a smirk. "That's true. Either that, or simply deserters," she said calmly. She believed that with every war there came deserters. Those cowards who couldn't handle the rage of war. The weak ones. Granted, Ziade herself was no war master or anything, but she could at least hold her own without chickening out. She looked at the boy as he asked if there was something he could help her with. "Not particularly. But out of simple curiosity, why do you occupy your time learning the statistics of war?" she asked. She figured that must've been what he was doing, considering what he'd been saying when she'd stumbled upon him. |

| Ivan believed deserters to be cowards, and cowards deserved to die. So either they were dead. He wondered which catagory Ziade and her group fell into. Buzzards, scavangers, worthless scum who found work and then left. No permanant home, worse than rogues. Ah yes, they were the lowest of the low, above cowards. "I find war interesting, but at the same time, I have no better things to do. No missions have been assigned to me, yet." He said feeling as though he should have maybe kept the war part to himself. He looked the woman over once. "And it's good to know what are the chances of making it back alive, in the case of, you know, war." Ivan had a smile on his face. A friendly one to say the least. But looks could be deceiving and Ivan, who had been deemed shady far too many times, had a smile that read friendly, but behind it lay the intent of destruction. |

| Ziade tilted her head slightly as the boy said that he found war interesting. That was certainly something she'd never heard before. She wondered if he found fighting in general interesting or the concept of war. The black haired woman glanced at his headband, noting that he was from the Stealth. In the case of war, he'd said. As she was hearing it lately, war might've erupted on his home soon enough. "Simple chance has nothing to do with whether you make it back alive or not," she stated. "It's skill that determines whether you live or die," she said with a sly smile. |

| Ivan found this woman to be a bit more amusing than the women of his village. She didn't sugar coat everything. If he spoke of war in his village it was quickly changed to a different subject. He didn't not wish to be labeled as different within his own home. An outcast would undoubtedly bring trouble upon him. Ivan smiled at the woman. "Skills indeed. You've either got them or you don't." He looked to the gravestone. "They obviously didn't have it." Ivan was being blunt, but it was the truth. He felt it safe to speak in such ways to this woman. If she would not sugarcoat, then neither would he. |

| Ziade noted that something about this boy's smile was off, but she just couldn't place what. It almost seemed...fake. She looked to the stone, her eyes without sympathy for the deceased. "Perhaps if they'd trained a bit more some of them would be alive now. Then again, some people just don't have what it takes to be a ninja," she stated calmly. It was interesting to speak with someone the way she was speaking with this boy. Normally people avoided the subject of death entirely, as if if they spoke of it, Death would come to get them. Ziade, however, did not fear death. |

| No sympathy for the dead. That was understandable. "Indeed they don't." He said with not much sympathy himself. "People jump into battle thinking they will come out a hero. You don't become a hero by getting yourself killed. If you don't come out on top, then what is there to gain? Nothing. Second best is the first loser." Ivan dusted the stone, uncovering a few names and read over them. "I find this to be the most annoying. Trying to be a hero by saving someone who should be able to protect themselves. Why sign up if you know it's not for you? We aren't here to make friends and create ties, we're here to do a job, a job that means no one matters." Ivan's true thoughts were coming out and he had noticed, but was feeling semi-comfortable with it. But he felt as though he'd said too much and silence fell upon him. |

| Ziade actually chuckled at the younger boy's words. "The problem is, those who don't come back are treated as heroes. And the sad thing is, they're not even there to see it," she said with a sly smile. This kid would've done well in the Five. "You're not quite like most others I've met from the Valley's," she stated, looking at him. "But I get the feeling you don't act as such around the Valley's." It was understandable. People disliked different. It was human nature, what one does not understand, one does not like. She noticed that she did not know this boy's name. Then again, she wasn't out to make friends. Though, she took an interest in this one. He was intriguing. So why not ask his name? "As much as I agree with the notion that ninja are not out to make friends, may I inquire to what your name is?" she asked. Then again, she was no ninja. She was an assassin. |

| Ivan turned away from the giant gravestone, "My name is Ivan." The Chuunin agreed with her. What was the point of going out to fight if you would only be remembered once you were dead. Ivan didn't want to be a hero though. He wanted to be something much more. He wanted to be notorious, but not famous. Everyone wanted to play the hero, he wanted to be different. He wanted to be the village. "What is your name?" He asked.

| Ziade looked at the boy as he stated his name. She gave a graceful smile as he asked hers. "Ziade," she stated calmly. She had no qualms with giving out her name. "You're of the Stealth?" she asked, motioning to his headband. After having discussed it with Akira, chances were she would be in this boy's home soon enough. Lucky her. She'd been to the Stealth by herself once or twice before, but that had been prior to her involvement with the Infamous Five, several years back. It couldn't have changed that much, or so she'd imagine. |

| Why was this woman interested in his village? Did she intend to report him to Lady Tenkuu? Would she jeopardize everything he'd worked for by exposing his thoughts that he had so carelessly leaked to her? Would she betray him in such a way that he'd be banned from the one place he called home? Ivan became upset with himself for being so foolish. "Yes, I am from the Stealth." He answered. |

| Perhaps she'd struck a nerve with that question, because almost immediately Ziade noticed a change in his demeanor. She meant no harm in the question of course, but he didn't know that. She'd remedy that situation. "I've never met someone from the Vallies as interested in war as your are," she stated. She gave a small wave of her hand. "Well, aside from the Kages, of course," she corrected herself. Of course the Kage's had to be more interested in war, they had to make all the calls after all. "And from the rumors spreading, I might be working in your village soon," she informed him. She wanted this kid to know she wasn't his enemy. She wasn't really here for a fight after all. |
